Program Overview


Introduction to International Graduate Programs

The Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) offers various international graduate programs, including the LL.M. Program, S.J.D. Program, Summer Program, and Chinese Program. These programs are designed to cultivate global governance talents with a broad international vision, excellent comprehensive capacity, outstanding leadership, and cross-cultural background.


Applicant Eligibility

To be eligible for application to SJTU International Graduate Programs, applicants must meet the following general requirements:


  1. Be a non-Chinese citizen.
  2. Have good health, both physically and mentally.
  3. Demonstrate outstanding academic performance and potential.
  4. Hold a Bachelor's degree for master program applicants or a Master's degree for doctoral program applicants.
  5. Be proficient in Chinese and/or English, with specific language requirements outlined in the Language Requirement for SJTU International Graduate Programs.

Important Dates

The following dates are crucial for applicants:


  • October 15: Opening of 2026 Application
  • December 15, 2025: Deadline for 1st Round Chinese Government Scholarship application
  • February 15, 2026: Deadline for 2nd (Final) Round Chinese Government Scholarship application
  • March 31, 2026: Deadline for SGS Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship application
  • May 31, 2026: Deadline for self-supported application

Application Process

The application process involves two main steps:


  1. Complete the Online Application: Submit an online application at Study@SJTU before the application deadline. If applying for a scholarship, complete the application before the scholarship deadline.
  2. Pay the Application Fee: The non-refundable and non-transferable application fee is CNY 800 or approximately USD 120. Payment must be made in CNY or USD through online payment or bank transfer in the online application system.

Materials to Prepare

Applicants must prepare the following materials:


  1. Degree certificates in scanned files. Applicants who have not graduated by the time of application must provide an official letter from their current university stating the expected graduation date.
  2. Transcripts in scanned files. Master's program applicants must submit undergraduate transcripts, while doctoral program applicants must submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
  3. Proof of language proficiency, as outlined in the Language Requirement for SJTU International Graduate Programs.
  4. Scanned copy of passport.
  5. Passport-size photo.
  6. Personal statement and study plan.
  7. Two letters of academic recommendation from scholars who are associate professors or above, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Follow the instructions on the online system for submission of online recommendation letters or upload the recommendation letters with original signatures.

Tuition for Master programs varies, so applicants must check the SJTU 2024 international graduate program list for details.


Scholarships

SJTU provides different kinds of scholarships for excellent applicants, including the Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship, and others. The China Scholarship Council implements the Youth of Excellence Scheme of China (YES China) master programs sponsored by the Chinese government scholarship. The KoGuan School of Law was approved for this program, and more information is available upon request.
