Program Overview
Master in China Studies (MCS)
The Master in China Studies (MCS) program is designed for international and Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan applicants.
Eligibility
For International Applicants:
- Non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Proof of English proficiency: Non-native English speakers should provide either TOEFL (90 and above) or IELTS (6.0 and above) test results or equivalent evidence of English proficiency.
- Working experience: Applicants with previous experience in entrepreneur management are preferred.
For Applicants from Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan:
- Applicants from Hong Kong or Macau must hold Hong Kong or Macau permanent resident ID card, and either "Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents" or "Residence Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents."
- Applicants from Taiwan must hold a valid identity certificate for living in Taiwan, and either "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents" or "Residence Permit for Taiwan Residents."
- A bachelor's degree: Applicants who graduated from non-Chinese universities must hold a bachelor's degree from a university accredited by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China.
- Provide either TOEFL (90 and above) or IELTS (6.0 and above) test results, or equivalent evidence of English proficiency.
- Working experience: Applicants with previous experience in entrepreneur management are preferred.

For Applicants from Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan:
- Application Form for Postgraduate Study in Peking University for 2026 Intake
- Copies of valid ID documents
- Copies of graduation certificate and degree diploma
- The original or notarized copy of the official transcript of the graduated institution in English or Chinese
- Personal postgraduate statement
- Two recommendation letters
- Certified score reports of TOEFL or IELTS

Application Deadline
For International Applicants: The online application period for 2026 intake is from October 20th, 2025 to March 31st, 2026.
For Applicants from Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan: The online application for the 2026 intake is open at 8:00am, November 10th, 2025 and will be closed at 12:00pm, January 9th, 2026.
Application Screening and Interview
The Admissions Committee completes application screening within PHBS. Finalists will be invited for interviews, with interview invitations sent out approximately one week in advance.
Admissions
The Graduate School of Peking University will review the applications of those who successfully pass the interview. Upon obtaining approval of admission from the Graduate School, the offers of admission will be mailed out by July of the enrolment year.
Medical Insurance
All students must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study.
Visa Information
International students admitted to the PHBS MCS programme must apply for a valid visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in your country in order to enter China.
