Application Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport.
- Hold a Master’s degree from a recognized university.
- GRE, GMAT, or other standardized test scores are recommended but not required.
- Have proof of English proficiency with a satisfactory TOEFL score (iBT 100 points or above, no sub-score below 22) or an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no sub-score lower than 5.5, unless they are a native English speaker or their undergraduate and postgraduate programs were taught in English.
- Residents of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying to Peking University as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating from before April 30, 2020, along with proof of cancellation of Chinese nationality.

Application Materials

- A personal statement (including a research plan, 3000 words, in English).
- Two recommendation letters from referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. At least one of them should have knowledge of the applicant's recent academic work.

Additional Requirements
Applicants expected to graduate in 2026 must provide an official letter from their current university stating their expected graduation date, submit their certificate of graduation upon being pre-admitted, and present their original degree diploma upon registration. It is highly recommended that applicants have a strong preparation in economics, preferably have taken intermediate microeconomics and intermediate macroeconomics courses at university-level or equivalency.
