Master's in Economics Program

The Master's in Economics program at Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS) offers a rigorous and comprehensive education in economics, preparing students for successful careers in academia, government, finance, consulting, and various other sectors. Program Curriculum

The Master's in Economics program curriculum is heavily quantitative based and therefore requires students to have a high level of mathematical skills. It is recommended that students who apply for this program have an undergraduate degree in a related or quantitative field such as economics, finance, mathematics, engineering, etc. It's strongly recommended that students have taken courses in both Economics and Mathematics. Economics courses that are recommended are Principle Economics, Intermediate to Microeconomics and Macroeconomics and Econometrics. Math courses that are recommended are Linear and Matrix Algebra, Multivariable Calculus and Real Analysis.


Admissions

  • Admissions for the 2026 cohort are now open, and will close on March 31, 2026.
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Must be a non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport.
  • Must have proof of English proficiency with a satisfactory TOEFL (90 and above) or IELTS (6.5 and above) score, unless you’re a native English speaker.

Fee & Finances

  • Tuition for the MA programs are 60,000 RMB per year and must be paid in full in the first week of each academic year.
  • In addition, expenses for room and board on campus are estimated to be 50,000 RMB per year.
  • Each year, Peking University HSBC Business School awards school-funded scholarships to selected Master's applicants.
