Introduction to the 2025 Application Guide for International Graduate Students in Computer Science at Peking University
The School of Computer Science at Peking University, Beijing, China, invites top international students to join the graduate programs and conduct innovative and impactful research in a world-class research environment. The goal is to cultivate world-class talents in computer science.
General Information of the Program
- Major: Computer Science and Technology. For more detailed information on research fields, please refer to the program catalog.
- Full-time enrollment: Courses are taught in Chinese or English.
- For students with a master's degree, the typical length for the Ph.D. program is 4 years.
- For students with a bachelor's degree but no master's degree, the typical length for the Ph.D. program is 5 years.
- The length of the Master's program is 3 years.

- Location: All students will live and study at the New Campus (Changping).
Application Prerequisites
- Non-Chinese Citizens: Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. Residents of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying to Peking University as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating from before April 30, 2019, along with proof of cancellation of Chinese nationality.
- Health and Background: Applicants should be healthy, both physically and psychologically, with no criminal record, friendly to China, and must abide by the laws and decrees of China.
- Academic Requirements:
- Applicants for master's degree programs must have attained a bachelor's degree, and those who graduated from non-Chinese universities must hold a bachelor's degree from a university accredited by the Ministry of Education of China.
- Applicants for doctoral programs must have attained a master's degree, and those who graduated from a non-Chinese institution must have a master's degree from an institution recognized by the Ministry of Education of China. Applicants with bachelor's degrees may apply for admission to doctoral programs in subjects of sciences and engineering.
- Language Ability: The applicant's academic performance, academic level, and language ability should meet the admission requirements of the major they are applying for.

- English-taught Program:
- 1st Round: October 14, 2024 - January 10, 2025
- 2nd Round: January 11, 2025 - February 28, 2025
Application Materials
- Graduation and Degree Certificates: Degree authentication in Chinese or English. For degree certificates in other languages, applicants are required to upload both the original copy and a notarized copy in Chinese or English.
- Official Transcripts: These must be original documents or notarized copies either in Chinese or English.
- Personal Statement: Including a research plan (1500 words for the master's degree program, 3000 words for the doctoral program).
- Resume and Commitment for Application: Please fill in your desired supervisor in the personal statement.
- Recommendation Letters: Two recommendation letters from professor(s) or associate professor(s) related to the applicant’s major (or equivalent professionals with relevant academic title), either in Chinese or English.
- Language Test Scores:
- For Chinese-taught programs, language test scores fulfilling the HSK standards are eligible for submission.
- For English-taught programs, applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit TOEFL iBT (100 points or above) or GRE (320 points or above) or IELTS (6.5 points or above).
- Passport Information: Information page of the valid passport (passport type must be ordinary). The expiration date of the passport should be after December 2025.
- Academic Publications: Table of contents and abstracts of the applicant’s academic publications and any other original achievements in their field (if applicable).
Application Fee
The application fee is 800 RMB, which is non-refundable and must be paid online before the application deadline.
Interview
The eligibility of all applicants will be evaluated by the Admission Committee, organized by the School of Computer Science. The committee will select qualified applicants and inform the candidates about the interview details. The interview will be held in March or April 2025.
Admission
- Pre-admission Notification: The School of Computer Science will notify pre-admitted candidates before the end of May.
- Submission of Original Documents: Pre-admitted candidates should deliver or mail the original application documents (except for degree diploma and recommendation letters) to Peking University by May 31, 2025.
- Official Admission Letter: The International Student Division will issue the official admission letter, visa application form (JW201/JW202), and other documents to the admitted students in late June 2025.
Tuition and Scholarship
- Tuition Fee:
- Ph.D. program: Chinese-taught program (RMB 40,000 Yuan per year, RMB 160,000 Yuan in total for four years), English-taught program (RMB 50,000 Yuan per year, RMB 200,000 Yuan in total for four years).
- Master’s program: Chinese-taught program (RMB 33,000 Yuan per year, RMB 99,000 Yuan in total for three years), English-taught program (RMB 50,000 Yuan per year, RMB 150,000 Yuan in total for three years).
- Scholarships:
- Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B): tuition waiver, free accommodation, monthly living expenses, and medical insurance provided in accordance with the regulations.
- Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students: tuition subsidy.
- Peking University Scholarship for International Students: tuition waiver, monthly living expenses, medical insurance.
- Financial support from the School of Computer Science will be awarded as a complement to the above scholarships for Ph.D. students, to guarantee that all Ph.D. students will receive full financial support.
