Program Overview
Introduction to the Program
The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Peking University is dedicated to educating innovation-minded scholars with a global perspective and understanding of China. The program is designed for international students and offers a Master's degree and Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering.
Program Details
- Major Catalog: The program offers a major in Materials Science and Engineering with a research field in Energy Materials, Optoelectronic Materials, Biomaterials, Composite Materials, and Emerging Materials.
- Method and Length of Study: The study methods for a master’s degree or Ph.D. degree at MSE are full-time, with a basic study period of 3 years for master’s students and 4 years for doctoral students.
- Application Prerequisites: Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport.
- Be healthy, both physically and psychologically, with no criminal record.
- Abide by the laws and decrees of China and the regulations of Peking University.
- Have attained a bachelor’s degree or higher from a university/college accredited by the Ministry of Education of China for master’s degree programs.
- Have attained a master's degree or higher from an institution accredited by the Ministry of Education of China for doctoral programs.
Application Period and Materials
- Application Period: The application period is divided into two rounds:
- 1st Round: October 20, 2025 – December 23, 2025
- 2nd Round: January 17, 2026 - February 20, 2026
- Application Materials: Applicants must submit the following documents:
- Graduation and degree diplomas in Chinese or English and the degree authentication issued by Ministry of Education of China.
- Official transcripts of the applicant’s academic achievement.
- A personal statement, including a research plan.
- Resume and a copy of the Application Commitment letter.
- Two recommendation letters from professor(s) or associate professor(s) related to the applicant’s major.
- Original English language test scores (TOEFL or GRE).
- Passport front page.
- Table of contents and abstracts of the applicant’s academic publications and any other original achievements in his/her field (if applicable).
Application Fee and Examination
- Application Fee: The application fee for each program is 800 RMB.
- Examination: The International Student Division will review the applicant's basic qualifications, and after passing the review, the application materials will be forwarded to the admissions office of the school for the academic review.
Admission and Enrollment
- Admission: The Admission Office will review and make the preliminary admission list based on the school’s examination results.
- Enrollment: Admitted students will complete the registration procedures and enroll at Peking University in early September 2026.
Tuition Fees and Scholarships
- Tuition Fees: The tuition fees for the Master's degree program and Ph.D. degree program are to be announced.
- Scholarships: New international students may apply for the following scholarships:
- Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B)
- Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students
- Peking University Scholarship for International Students
