Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics
Program Overview
Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics
The Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics is a continuing education program offered by ETH Zurich. Medical physics is the application of physics to the needs of medicine, an exciting, challenging, and growing field that resides at the interfaces between physics, engineering, biology, and medicine.
Program Overview
The field of medical physics includes diverse areas such as medical imaging, radiation therapy, radiation safety, biomedical engineering, bioimaging, biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, and biocompatible materials. The program aims to provide a solid foundation in the field of medical physics, enabling graduates to be quickly and successfully employed in medical physics-related jobs in hospitals, industry, and research.
Specializations
The Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics has two specializations:
- Radiation Therapy: This specialization mainly focuses on the classical medical physics applications of radiotherapy and imaging, aiming to provide the theoretical basics for the SSRMP certification.
- General Medical Physics: This specialization comes in several majors, accounting for the various areas of medical physics.
Program Structure
The program starts every two years (in even-numbered years) and is designed for both new students and experienced medical physicists. Successful students will receive the title "MAS ETH in Medical Physics," along with supplementary documentation showing the teaching modules followed and the title of the Master Thesis.
Education and Courses
The program includes a structured curriculum with courses such as:
- First-year lectures
- Specialisation A - Radiation Therapy
- Specialisation B - General Medical Physics
- Master's Thesis
Objective
The objective of the Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics is to provide continuing education for interested students who want to enter the field of medical physics, as well as for already experienced medical physicists who want to deepen their knowledge in one of the different areas in the field of medical physics. The program is designed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in medical physics-related careers.
