The FASS Mentorship Programme connects undergraduates with experienced FASS alumni, providing insights on specific career sectors, expanding professional networks, and guiding students to chart their career paths.
About FAS3551 FASS Capstone Career Preparation
The course complements the existing FASS Mentorship Programme, serving as a requirement for the FASS 2.0 Industry Tracks Programme. To register for FAS3551, students must fulfill the prerequisite and enroll in the FASS Mentorship Programme. The course is available in Semester 2 of each new Academic Year.
Overview of Course
- Preclusion and Advisory:
- Applicable to students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours), or Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Honours) with an Environmental Geography specialisation.
- Cannot be used to delay Honours or graduation.
- Students on Leave of Absence during the mentorship period cannot register for the course.
- Students on overseas SEP are not allowed to enroll in FAS3551 during the SEP semester.
- Pre-requisite:
- Full-time undergraduate students who have completed 80 Units.
- Good Disciplinary Record.
- Credits & Grading:
- 2 Units.
- Used to fulfill UE and are graded on CS/CU basis.
- Mentorship performed while on LOA cannot be used to earn credit.

- Priority given to those who have met the prerequisite, chosen their major, and are on track to complete the FASS 2.0 Industry Tracks Programme.
- Demonstrated motivation and readiness to pursue a career in a chosen track.
- Enthusiastic and keen to achieve a better understanding of one's career preferences.
- Can commit to the one-year duration of the programme.
- Maintain an open and positive mindset when exploring career options.
- Pre-requisite:
- Completed 80 Units.
- Align with FASS 2.0 Industry Track:
- Determine the track to pursue, as it impacts mentor matching.
- Discover industry background, facts, and figures, including key tasks and working environments.
- Self-Assessment Tool: Know Yourself:
- Discover suitable career options based on personality, strengths, and work values using self-assessment tools.
Apply for 2026 Mentorship Programme
- Steps:
- Register Your Interest:
- Mentorship application opens in July/Aug each year.
- Complete the online Mentorship Programme Registration Form, indicating interest in FAS3551.
- Participation Outcome:
- Informed of the participation outcome by November.
- Confirm Mentorship Placement:
- Once matched, join the FASS Mentorship Programme in the following year (Jan to Dec).
Enrol in FAS3551 FASS Capstone Career Preparation
- Steps:
- Registration for FAS3551:
- Receive an invitation email to register for FAS3551 by Nov 2025.
- Indicate interest to enroll in the course by early Dec 2025.
- Enrollment to FAS3551:
- The Mentorship Administrator allocates the course.
- For those meeting the 80 Units prerequisite at the end of Semester 1 of AY24/25, the course is allocated upon the release of exam results.
- Determine your Academic Advisor (AA):
- The AA reviews assessment tasks and decides on performance.
- By default, an AA from the FASS Deanery is assigned; students may nominate a faculty member as AA.

- FAS3551 FASS Capstone Career Preparation:
- Specific Assessment Tasks:
- LinkedIn Profile Summary (20% of grade):
- Create a LinkedIn profile and prepare a profile summary write-up with guidance from the mentor.
- Include the LinkedIn URL in the report.
- "Research the Industry" Report (40% of grade):
- 1,000 words.
- Encapsulate research and findings on the development, opportunities, and challenges in the chosen industry, in consultation with the mentor.
- "Reflection Narrative" Report (40% of grade):
- 1,000 words.
- Reflect upon the learning journey in NUS FASS and relate it to the chosen industry, including:
- Reflection upon the mentorship journey.
- Learning outcomes achieved.
- Advice to juniors.
- Acknowledgment to the mentor.
- Submission:
- Assignments > FAS3551 Assessment Tasks folder.
- Name the file in the format: <FAS3551 Report_Matriculated Name_Matriculated Number_Name of Mentor>.
- Deadline: 1 April 2025, Wednesday.
