Program Overview
NUS-KI Student Exchange for PhD Students
The National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Karolinska Institutet (KI) have established an exciting partnership for PhD students. KI is one of the world's foremost medical universities, accounting for the single largest share of all academic medical research conducted in Sweden. The university also offers the country's broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences.
Eligibility Criteria & Requirements
- Full-time PhD students with a minimum GPA of 4.0 are eligible to apply.
- However, student exchange cannot be during the semester of thesis submission.
- Students must have completed coursework.
- Students must have clocked GAP hours (50%, 75%, and 100% for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year of candidature, respectively) before the attachment.
- Applications must be submitted one semester before the attachment.
- The duration of the student exchange in KI must be minimally one month and maximally six months.
- A lab safety course is mandatory for the exchange student from NUS, if deemed required by KI.
Proposal, Invitation & Endorsement
Research Proposal
- The research proposal must be drafted in consultation with the KI supervisor.
Invitation Letter
- The invitation letter must be co-signed by the KI Host Supervisor and the Head of Department (HOD).
Application Endorsement
- The host department application must be endorsed by the NUS thesis advisor and the HOD.
Finances
- Tuition fees in KI will be waived.
- NUS PhD students will receive insurance coverage under the Student Travel Insurance Policy.
- KI will secure accommodation for each student, with rental rates varying and costs to be borne by the student.
- All other expenses incurred during the exchange trip shall be financed by the student.
