Overview

This Professional Certificate covers Total Workplace Safety and Health (Total WSH) as the Singapore framework to promote worker safety, occupational health, and wellness. It is an evolution of the traditional view that worker health is only about safety at the workplace. The framework encourages companies to view worker health holistically and provides guidance on the assessment of worker’s Total WSH needs, as well as the implementation of intervention or preventive programmes. As Singapore continues its journey towards living with COVID-19, management of infectious diseases at the workplace will also be covered.

Programme Outline & Learning Objectives

Segment 1: Introduction to Total Workplace Safety and Health

• Date: Wednesday, 14 May 2025
• Prerequisite: N.A.
• SSG Course Code: TGS-
• This segment aims to deepen participants’ knowledge of Total WSH and to utilise the basic implementation considerations in employing the tools of the Singapore Assessment-Intervention-Monitoring & Evaluation (A-I-ME) methodology as part of the Total WSH framework, for the workplace.
• At the end of the segment, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the Total WSH Framework and how it relates to the practice of worker safety, occupational health, and well-being in the workplace.
  2. Employ the A-I-ME framework to implement Total WSH at the workplace.

Segment 2: Assessment and Implementation of Safety Programmes

• Date: Thursday, 15 May 2025
• Prerequisite: Attended Segment 1 (Introduction to Total Workplace Safety and Health) of this programme

• With the Introduction to Total WSH laying the foundation, this segment allows participants to better utilise the legislation and principles of the safety framework in employing the tools of the Singapore Assessment-Intervention-Monitoring & Evaluation (A-I-ME) methodology as part of the Total WSH framework, in implementing safety programmes for the workplace.
• At the end of the segment, the participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the legislated and non-legislated components and principles of the safety framework, in relation to Total WSH.
  2. Employ Total WSH principles to implement safety programmes.

Segment 3: Assessment and Implementation of Occupational Health Programmes

• Date: Friday, 16 May 2025
• Prerequisite: Attended Segment 1 (Introduction to Total Workplace Safety and Health) of this programme

• This segment allows participants to incorporate the principles of occupational health in employing the tools of the Singapore Assessment-Intervention-Monitoring & Evaluation (A-I-ME) methodology as part of the Total WSH framework, in implementing occupational health programmes for the workplace.
• At the end of the segment, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the practice of occupational health in the workplace, in relation to Total WSH.
  2. Employ Total WSH principles to implement occupational health programmes.

Segment 4: Assessment of Employee Well-being and Implementation of Behavioural Intervention Programmes

• Date: Wednesday, 21 May 2025
• Prerequisite: Attended Segment 1 (Introduction to Total Workplace Safety and Health) of this programme

• This segment allows participants to acquire the understanding and principles of health and related tools for employee wellbeing in an organisation. With this understanding, participants will then be able to implement behavioural intervention programmes by employing the tools of the Singapore Assessment-Intervention-Monitoring & Evaluation (A-I-ME) methodology as part of the Total WSH framework.
• At the end of the segment, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the use of health screening and other related tools in the assessment of employee well-being.
  2. Employ Total WSH principles to implement behavioural intervention programmes.

Segment 5: Management of Infectious Diseases at the Workplace

• Date: Thursday, 22 May 2025
• Prerequisite: Attended Segment 1 (Introduction to Total Workplace Safety and Health) of this programme

• This segment allows participants to relate the principles of managing infectious diseases to the implementation of programmes to manage infectious diseases at the workplace, by employing the tools of the Singapore Assessment-Intervention-Monitoring & Evaluation (A-I-ME) methodology as part of the Total WSH framework.
• At the end of the segment, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the principles of managing infectious diseases at the workplace.
  2. Employ Total WSH principles to implement programmes to manage infectious diseases at the workplace.

Segment 6: Integrating and Sustaining Total Workplace Safety and Health at the Workplace

• Date: Friday, 23 May 2025
• Prerequisite: Attended segments 1 to 5 of this programme
• SSG Course Code: TGS-
• Building on knowledge and skills taught in previous segments of Total WSH course, participants in this course will better appreciate the challenges in implementing Total WSH. By drawing upon the various principles and frameworks to overcome challenges, participants will also employ Total WSH principles to integrate and sustain Total WSH at the workplace (Singapore Assessment-Intervention-Monitoring & Evaluation methodology).
• At the end of the segment, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the challenges and solutions to implementing Total WSH.
  2. Employ Total WSH principles to integrate and sustain Total WSH at the workplace.

Who Should Attend?

This Professional Certificate is relevant to Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officers, Managers, Coordinators, Executives, and Nurses who are responsible for implementing Singapore’s Total WSH framework.

Professionals from all industries who are interested in managing and promoting worker safety, occupational health, and wellness are encouraged to apply. It aims to prepare participants to support the ongoing shifts in the healthcare system and workplace towards health promotion and disease prevention.

Pre-requisites

• Bachelor’s degree
• Interested in public health related work
• Candidates with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case by case basis, subject to approval
• To attend Segment 6, participants are required to complete the following courses:
  • Introduction to Total Workplace Safety and Health
  • Assessment and Implementation of Safety Programmes
  • Assessment and Implementation of Occupational Health Programmes
  • Assessment of Employee Well-being and Implementation of Behavioural Intervention Programmes
  • Management of Infectious Diseases at the Workplace

Assessment & Certification

A professional certificate will be awarded to participants who have successfully completed all 6 segments and corresponding assessments, and achieve a minimum of 75% attendance.
