Graduate Certificate In Critical Care Nursing

Programme Overview

This programme is offered on a part-time work-study mode. The minimum and normal candidature period is over 2 regular semesters and 2 special terms, 1 year and the maximum candidature is 2 years.

Aims of Programme

The programme aims to deepen the critical care competencies (clinical, technical, and interpersonal) adopting a work-study approach.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical skills in critical care.
  2. Apply evidence-based practices to manage multisystem disorders/emergencies in critical care settings.
  3. Implement patient safety principles to the care of patients with multisystem disorders/emergencies in critical care settings.
  4. Engage patients and families in their care through effective communication and education strategies.

  6. Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to foster continuous professional growth and development.

Programme Structure

The 12-unit part-time programme comprises 3 courses, to be offered over 1 year (2 regular semesters and 2 special terms). The structure allows for flexibility and recognition of learning at each stage:

  1. Completion of All 3 Courses:
    • Upon successful completion of all 3 courses with a minimum GPA of 2.00 (cumulative across all courses), students will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing.
  2. Partial Completion (Exit Before All 3 Courses Completed):
    • If a student exits the programme before completing all 3 courses, they will be awarded a Certificate of Competency for each course they have successfully completed, provided they achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00 for that course.
  3. Stacking Towards Certification:
    • Each course completed with the required GPA contributes toward the overall Graduate Certificate.
    • Students who initially exit early but later return to complete the remaining courses (within the specified maximum candidature period) can stack previously earned Certificates of Competency towards the Graduate Certificate, as long as the cumulative GPA requirement is met.
