Graduate Certificate in Teaching & Learning for Healthcare Professionals
Programme Overview
Within the healthcare system, healthcare professionals play multiple roles; one pivotal role is that of an educator. To serve effectively in the role, healthcare professional educators need pedagogical preparation in curriculum development, teaching strategies, and evaluation methods. This programme is designed to provide healthcare professionals with a strong foundation on pedagogical preparation in curriculum development, teaching strategies, and evaluation methods. It affords opportunities for participants to design teaching and learning activities to accommodate different learning characteristics, styles, and goals while leveraging on technology.
Aims of Programme
The programme aims to broaden the key learning constructs as well as deepen and advance a healthcare professional’s skills in teaching and learning. Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:
- conduct a learning analysis;
- apply principles of effective content design;
- apply principles of assessment; and
- develop a lesson plan.
Programme Structure
The programme consists of 4 courses, offered over 2 semesters. The structure allows for flexibility and recognition of learning at each stage:
- Completion of All 4 Courses:
- Upon successful completion of all 4 courses with a minimum GPA of 2.00 (cumulative across all courses), students will be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Teaching & Learning for Healthcare Professionals.
- Partial Completion (Exit Before All 4 Courses Completed):
- If a student exits the programme before completing all 4 courses, they will be awarded a Certificate of Competency for each course they have successfully completed, provided they achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00 for that course.
- Stacking Towards Certification:
- Each course completed with the required GPA contributes toward the overall Graduate Certificate.
- Students who initially exit early but later return to complete the remaining courses (within the specified maximum candidature period) can stack previously earned Certificates of Competency towards the Graduate Certificate, as long as the cumulative GPA requirement is met.
