Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Energy & Chemicals
Programme Objective
The Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Energy & Chemicals is designed to address the pressing need for sustainable pathways to fuels, chemicals, and commodities. As industries commit to transforming their business and products to sustainable models, engineers with skills and training in decarbonization, sustainable production, and renewable energy systems will be well-positioned to take on lead technical roles. This programme aims to equip candidates with the principles and techniques in renewable energy systems, green chemical production, decarbonization, and other innovations in Chemical Engineering related to sustainable design and process development.
Programme Content
Hosted by the NUS Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, this graduate certificate programme provides new knowledge, skills, and outlooks on current technological advancements in sustainable process development for energy, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, and more.

Each course is 4 units unless otherwise specified, with 39 formal contact hours. Classes may be conducted on weekday evenings or Saturdays.

Award of Graduate Certificate
Individuals who have successfully completed the 3 courses (equivalent to 12 units) with a GPA of at least 2.5 will be deemed to have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate Programme. Such individuals will be awarded a Graduate Certificate. There will be no continuation requirements. Participants may repeat courses to improve GPA, provided the maximum candidature is not exceeded. Students who do not take examinations or fail to attain a GPA ≥ 2.5 will be given a Certificate of Participation, listing the courses taken if attendance is at least 70% for the listed course.
Admission to Master of Science (Chemical Engineering) and Master of Science (Energy Systems) Programmes
- Students who graduate with a GPA ≥ 3.0 may be considered for admission to M.Sc. CHE or M.Sc. ES programme.
- A maximum of 12 units of courses (each course with a minimum grade of B-) may be transferred to the M.Sc. CHE or M.Sc. ES programme, subject to approval by the ChBE department. The validity period of the transfer is not more than 5 years from the award of the Graduate Certificate.
- An application for transfer of credits must be submitted to the CDE Office of Graduate Programmes (OGP) within the first two instructional weeks of the semester upon enrolment into the Masters candidature.

Programme Fees
S$5,800 per course, subject to 9% GST. Singapore SkillsFuture Funding is applicable.
