Program Overview

Graduate Certificate in Decarbonisation Analytics

Overview

The Graduate Certificate Programme allows candidates to upgrade themselves, or master new skills for those opting for mid-career switch, with more flexibility than a MSc degree programme. This will thus benefit more working professionals and executives who could not enrol in the MSc degree programme for various reasons including time constraints, and yet would like an alternative avenue into lifelong learning.

The impacts of climate change are global in scope, disrupting national economies and affecting livelihoods. In response, many nations have set decarbonisation and net zero targets to address climate change. As part of Singapore’s commitments under the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development and the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, the government in February 2021 launched the Singapore Green Plan which charts ambitious and concrete targets over the next ten years and beyond. Singapore has also recently raised its climate ambition to achieve net zero emissions by or around mid-century, and the carbon tax levels will be raised progressively from 2024.

Meeting global or national net zero targets cannot be achieved without businesses taking strong climate action. With growing consumer and shareholder pressure, business uptake of climate action has been accelerating. A growing number of companies have set net zero target, and are preparing and even transforming their businesses by hiring and developing decarbonisation and net zero expertise.

Decarbonisation analytics focuses on skillsets in analytic methods and quantitative analysis that are employed to measure, report and communicate the decarbonisation efforts and achievements of organizations, processes, products and services. Moving forward, it is important for companies to have these skillsets to understand the costs, impacts, and performance of their past and present sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives, and to anticipate future conditions and plan for requirements. These skillsets will become basic requirements for businesses to operate effectively under ESG.

It is therefore timely to introduce a Graduate Certificate Programme in Decarbonisation Analytics for candidates to acquire new knowledge, or enhance their knowledge, in decarbonisation, net zero, sustainability and related areas, so that they can be better prepared and equipped with the skillsets to meet the impending challenges and perform effectively in different industry sectors.
