Program Overview
About the Course (Undergraduate)
This degree aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to be a professional social work practitioner. Students will learn from classroom teaching, interpersonal skills training, and supervised field practice. The curriculum will expose students to a wide range of social science theories, organisation planning in the social service, human resource management, and research. Students will apply their learning during a compulsory field placement under the supervision of a qualified social work practitioner.
Course Details
The course is also open to students who are non-Social Work majors and who wish to acquire foundational knowledge of the social service sector. Students may choose to graduate with a Minor in Human Services.
Double Major and Concurrent Degree Options
- Double Major in Psychology & Social Work
- Concurrent Degree Programme (CDP) offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP)
- A CDP involves a combination of a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from the same Faculty or from two different Faculties
- Allows students to pursue a Bachelor's and a Master's degree concurrently
- The programme structure allows some of the requirements for the Bachelor's degree to be also counted towards the Master's degree
- Students can graduate in four and a half to five years with both degrees, instead of five and a half to six years if pursued separately
- The CDP by FASS and LKYSPP is applicable only to students who major in Economics, Political Science, Sociology, and Social Work
