Program Overview


Master of Communication – Data and Communication Specialisation

Overview

The Data and Communication specialisation track of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Master of Communication (MOC) programme comprises courses to help communication professionals remain relevant in changing times by learning about data visualisation, social media and analytics, studying that data and understanding it, and then building a positive narrative with it.


Admission Requirements

Admission to the NUS MOC programme is granted on a competitive basis as places in the programme are limited. Applicants should possess the following minimum requirements:


  • Academic: Bachelor's Degree (preferably with Honours: Merit/Second Class and above) in a related discipline, or equivalent (e.g. a four-year Bachelor’s degree with at least an average grade of B or equivalent)
  • Skill/Experience: For holders of undergraduate qualifications other than a Bachelor's Degree with Honours (see above), two years of relevant industry experience
  • English Language: Applicants whose native tongue and medium of university instruction is not completely in English: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 100 (Internet-based) with minimum score of 22 for the writing section, or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum Academic score of 7.0 and minimum score of 6.0 in each band, or equivalent
  • Other: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an admission interview (telephone interviews or video conferencing interviews). An overall evaluation of candidate profiles will be considered for admission.

Mode of Study and Programme Candidature

The NUS MOC programme is offered on the following basis (with estimated time to complete the programme indicated below):


  • Full-time: 12 months
  • Part-time: 24 months

Programme Structure

The NUS MOC is a 40-Unit coursework-based Master’s Degree programme comprising:


  • Core/essential courses (8 Units)
  • Elective courses (32 Units), inclusive of optional Internship (8 Units; for students with less than two years of working experience) or Mentorship (8 Units; for students with at least two years of working experience) or Final Year Project (4 Units)

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from the NUS MOC programme, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Programme and/or Specialisation: Read and pass a total of 40 Units
  • Course and/or Qualification: Refer to the respective Option in the Programme Structure above
  • Grade Point Average (GPA): Minimum 3.0 (out of maximum 5.0)
  • Other: Fulfil required e-courses as and when imposed at the University level

Fees

The University reserves all rights to review fees as necessary and adjust accordingly without prior notice.


  • Tuition: S$37,131.50 (excluding GST) / S$40,473.34 (including 9% GST)
  • Application: S$54.50 (including 9% GST) Non-refundable and non-transferable Limited to one application submission per intake, for up to a maximum of five programmes/courses per application
  • Acceptance: S$5,000.00 (excluding GST) Payable upon acceptance of offer Non-refundable and non-transferable Will be credited towards tuition fees
  • Miscellaneous Student Fees: As published by Office of the University Registrar Payable every regular semester

Scholarships & Financial Assistance

The scholarships and financial assistance schemes presented here are examples of the kinds of funding from the University as well as third-party sponsors that might be available to eligible NUS Master's Degree (Coursework) programme students and applicants.


  • Communications and New Media ASEAN Postgraduate Scholarship: Merit-based scholarship providing a full waiver of tuition fees, which may be offered to one citizen of an ASEAN member country successfully admitted into the programme
  • Communications and New Media Partial Scholarship: Merit-based partial scholarships in the amount of S$10,000, which may be offered to selected citizens of ASEAN member countries successfully admitted into the programme
  • Master of Communication Study Awards: Merit-based awards in the amount of S$10,000, which may be offered to selected Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents who are successfully admitted into the programme
  • NUS Master's by Coursework Enhanced Tuition Fee Rebate: Enhanced rebates that may be offered to Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Residents who are successfully admitted into selected NUS Master's Degree programmes
  • NUS Master's Degree by Coursework Tuition Fee Rebate: Rebates that may be offered to Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents or NUS alumni who are successfully admitted into selected NUS Master's Degree programmes
  • SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme: For mid-career Singaporeans aged 40 and above to pursue a substantive skills reboot to stay relevant in a changing economy
