Program Overview
The Standalone Course in Foundations in Clinical Supervision for Senior Practitioner Psychologists is designed for senior psychologists in the public sector who provide clinical supervision to trainees and early-career psychologists. The course aligns with the Singapore Psychological Society's (SPS) clinical supervision guidelines and aims to enhance supervisory skills through theoretical foundations, structured frameworks, and applied learning.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, participants are expected to achieve the following objectives:
- Understand the Theoretical Foundations of Clinical Supervision
- Explore key supervision models and frameworks.
- Apply reflective and competency-based approaches in clinical supervision.
- Strengthen the Supervisory Relationship
- Develop strategies to build and maintain an effective supervisory alliance.
- Establish clear structure and expectations within supervision.
- Enhance Assessment, Evaluation, and Feedback Skills
- Implement structured approaches to evaluating supervisee competence.
- Provide constructive, developmentally appropriate feedback.
- Navigate Ethical Considerations in Supervision
- Identify and address common ethical dilemmas in supervision.
- Uphold professional boundaries and conduct.
- Incorporate Diversity and Cultural Competence in Supervision
- Help supervisees recognize the influence of cultural and individual differences.

- Participate in facilitated peer supervision groups.
- Apply knowledge and skills from the workshop in real-world supervision.
Mode of Delivery and Assessment
- Mode of Delivery: The mode of delivery is face-to-face classes with synchronous online sessions.
- Assessment: Learners will be assessed in the following ways:
- In-class Quiz: Participants will complete an online quiz on the content taught. This assessment component will be graded "pass/fail".
- Group supervision competency assessment (across 4 sessions): Each participant in the group supervision has to bring an agenda item to supervision and present their progress with their supervisee(s). A competency rubric will be used by the trainers to rate each participant. This assessment component will be graded "pass/fail".
Entry Requirements
- A master's degree in an applied psychology field (e.g., clinical and counselling psychology),
- Minimum 3 years of relevant psychology work experience
- Registered SRP (Singapore Register of Psychologist) member/eligible for registration and working towards supervisor registration

Course Structure and Details
Part I: Workshop
- Synopsis: The course consists of a 14-hour interactive workshop conducted across three days, incorporating online synchronous sessions to accommodate busy clinicians.
- Training Venue: Classes will be conducted face-to-face in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, NUS, and online through Zoom.

Part II: Peer Supervision Groups
- Synopsis: Following the workshop, participants will gain access to facilitated peer supervision groups, providing an ongoing space for discussion, reflection, and application of learning.
