Program Overview
Introduction to the Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Health
The Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Health (GDCAH) is a 1-year part-time graduate diploma program designed to provide continued professional development for physicians who are motivated to advance their clinical expertise in the delivery of child and adolescent health in the community and in their family practice.
Programme Overview
The GDCAH is jointly organized by the Division of Graduate Medical Studies and the Department of Paediatrics, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The program aims to build a community of practice made up of community physicians serving in primary healthcare who are driven to pursue a journey of lifelong learning to continually improve their practice in delivering care to children and adolescents.
Programme Structure
The GDCAH consists of 6 academic courses, with 4 modular credits per course, totaling 24 modular credits. Participants can choose to complete either the Graduate Certificate in Child Health (comprising Courses 1 – 3) and/or the Graduate Certificate in Child Development and Adolescent Health (comprising Courses 4 – 6). Participants who successfully complete the 2 Graduate Certificates are eligible to be conferred the Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Health (GDCAH).
Programme Schedule
The Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Health (GDCAH) Programme will be taking place during the following periods:
- Graduate Certificate in Child Health (Courses 1 – 3): 3 August 2024 to 14 December 2024
- Graduate Certificate in Child Development and Adolescent Health (Courses 4 – 6): 8 February 2025 to 28 June 2025
Programme Components
Graduate Certificate in Child Health
The following courses are part of the Graduate Certificate in Child Health:
- Course 1: Care of the Newborn and Common Paediatric Surgical Issues
- Description: This course emphasizes the general practitioner's (GP's) role in the care and management of common neonatal conditions and pediatric surgical conditions that present within the community.

- Course 2: Care of the Well Child
- Description: This course emphasizes the general practitioner's (GP's) role in the care of the well child, enabling learners to understand and differentiate between the normal, normal variants, and abnormalities in a child's growth and development.

- Course 3: Acute Paediatrics
- Description: This course emphasizes the general practitioner's (GP's) role in managing common acute medical conditions in children and adolescents presenting to primary healthcare.

Graduate Certificate in Child Development and Adolescent Health
The following courses are part of the Graduate Certificate in Child Development and Adolescent Health:
- Course 4: Early Childhood Development
- Description: This course teaches healthcare professionals caregiving themes that matter to parents, developing a model of practice that establishes collaborative relationships with families presenting to primary healthcare.

- Course 5: Holistic Care in School-Aged Children
- Description: This course emphasizes the general practitioner's (GP's) role in prevention and early identification of common learning, emotional, behavioral, and health problems in school-going children.

- Course 6: Adolescent Health
- Description: This course emphasizes the general practitioner's (GP's) role in providing holistic management for adolescents/young adults presenting to primary healthcare, identifying biopsychosocial risks and/or conditions requiring specialist referral.

Assessment and Examination
Programme assessment will be conducted longitudinally throughout the programme using the following formats:
- Attendance (at least 80%)
- Assignments
- Demonstrations
- Online self-assessments
- Key Feature Problems and/or Script Concordance Tests
Intake Dates
The Programme commences in August annually for the Grad Cert in Child Health and in February annually for the Grad Cert in Child Development and Adolescent Health. The maximum capacity for each intake is 20 students.
Admission
Eligibility Criteria
Learners must meet the following prerequisites for all courses:
- Hold a recognized basic medical degree or equivalent
- Have a minimum 2 years of experience post-registration
- For overseas foreign doctors whose native tongue or medium of undergraduate instruction is not in English: Meet the minimum level of English language proficiency requirement (TOEFL)
Application
The application period for courses under the Graduate Certificate in Child Development and Adolescent Health (GC2) is from 4 October 2024 to 1 November 2024. The 3 courses are to be registered individually via the NUS Online Application Portal.
Fees
Programme Fees
The total full programme fee without SSG subsidy and with GST is:
- SGD 17,658.00 for Graduate Certificate in Child Health (GC1)
- SGD 17,658.00 for Graduate Certificate in Child Development and Adolescent Health (GC2)
- SGD 35,316.00 for Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Health (GDCAH)
The total nett programme fee for Singaporeans 39 years and below, PRs, and eligible LTVP+ holders is:
- SGD 5,297.40 for GC1
- SGD 5,297.40 for GC2
- SGD 22,955.40 for GDCAH
The total nett programme fee for Singaporeans 40 years (MCES) and learners eligible for ETSS is:
- SGD 1,765.80 for GC1
- SGD 1,765.80 for GC2
- SGD 19,423.80 for GDCAH
Student Miscellaneous Fees
- Student Services Fee: SGD 25.70
- Application Fee: SGD 98.10
Funding
The Programme is eligible for the following funding schemes:
- Eligible Singaporeans and Permanent Residents may be able to enjoy up to 70% - 90% SSG subsidies.
- Claim SkillsFuture credit - All self-sponsored Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their existing SkillsFuture Credits to offset the nett programme fees.
Withdrawal Policy
- All withdrawal and refund requests will be subjected to 10% administrative charges capped at SGD 500.00.
- All requests must be submitted within 14 calendar days from the last day of Examination end date or before the programme commencement date, where applicable.
