Enhancing Ethical Reasoning in Corrections

Learning Outcomes:
In this course, participants will learn the larger socio-legal and ethical issues behind decision making. Participants will also learn a range of decision-making models and how to systematically think through ethical dilemmas.

Process and Punishment

Learning Outcomes:
The course will introduce participants to the sociological and psychological issues relating to incarceration and their impact on the processes of prisonization, prisoner identity construction and management, and subsequent reintegration into society, while also examining the broader implications for community dynamics and criminal justice reform.

Multicultural Sensitivity in Corrections

Learning Outcomes:
This workshop is intended to be interactive, experiential and reflective. Learning will be derived from experiential exercises, case discussions, personal and group-level reflections, role-plays, demonstrations, stories as well as some short lecture vignettes.

Incorporating Desistance-informed Theories in Offender Case Management

Learning Outcomes:
The programme will equip participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge of case formulation and reflective practice, and work on the participants' competencies in client and intervention understanding, reflective practice and problemsolving skills.

Understanding Underlying Emotions in Reintegration Work

Learning Outcomes:
This course offers an in-depth exploration of how this emotion manifests both physically and mentally. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the physiological and psychological mechanisms behind the emotion, including how it is triggered, sustained, and expressed. The module will also highlight various techniques and approaches to help clients recognize, process, and regulate this emotion more effectively

Candidature Period and Award of Certificate

The maximum candidature period that learners have to complete all component courses in order to be awarded the Professional Certificate (PC) is 36 months, which begins from the time of the first course read for this PC. The component courses can be taken in any order. Learners will be awarded the PC when they successfully complete all required component courses (all three core courses and at least one elective course).
