Biomolecular Science, B.S.
Program Overview
Introduction to the Biomolecular Science Program
The Biomolecular Science program at NYU Tandon is designed for students who wish to explore the interface between biology and chemistry. This program allows students to contribute to significant advancements in fields such as genetically modified crops, novel therapies, and ecological issues.
About the Program
The B.S. in Biomolecular Science is a comprehensive program that provides students with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of science, including math, physics, chemistry, and biology. The first two years of the program focus on core courses, after which students can concentrate their studies in biomedical science, biotechnology, or chemistry.
BS/MS Program
Prospective students with superior admission qualifications may be selected to participate in the B.S./M.S. Program, which allows them to earn two degrees simultaneously - a B.S. in Biomolecular Science and a M.S. in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship, or Chemistry. Depending on their preparation and goals, students can complete both degrees in as little as four years.
Career Opportunities
Students who graduate with a degree in Biomolecular Science can find employment in various fields, including:
- Biomedical science: developing artificial organs, prosthetics, or other medical devices
- Biotechnology: producing antibiotics, vaccines, and hormones through genetically based technologies
- Chemistry: working in pharmaceutical companies or related industries
Program Requirements
The program requirements include a sample course schedule, which provides students with a clear outline of the courses they need to complete to graduate.
Faculty
The program is directed by Industry Professor Julia Robinson-Surry, who oversees the Biomolecular Science (BMS) Program.
Research Areas
The program focuses on various research areas, including:
- Sustainability
- Quantum
- Embodied Intelligence
- Engineering Health
- Systems Engineering
- Engineering & Culture
Conclusion
