The Master of Arts in Dance Education: Teaching Dance in the Professions is a degree program designed for established dancers and choreographers who wish to develop pedagogy and research skills, as well as those currently teaching pre-K–12 who want to deepen their knowledge of theory and practice.

What You'll Learn
Through research in dance education and both general and subject-specific pedagogy courses, students will learn:
- How to examine dance through a pedagogic lens to select and apply teaching and learning processes appropriate to various settings and populations
- How to critically evaluate, review, and put into practice varying educational models in order to develop their own teaching philosophies and skills
- How to research methods to examine existing bases of information and create new knowledge in the field
- How to develop pedagogical skills to promote and nurture artistic exploration and expression
- How to develop pedagogies for culturally relevant contexts and culturally diverse students

Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to provide professional development in the theory and practice of dance education, with an emphasis on the historical and cultural contexts from which to teach dance. A final research project is the culmination of the degree.

Upon graduation, students will be well-prepared for their career as innovative educators or for advancement into doctoral study. The program can be completed in just three terms (including summer) as a full-time student.
