Endocrine Surgery Fellowship
Program Overview
Endocrine Surgery Fellowship
The Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a one-year, multidisciplinary program accredited by the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. The goal of our program is to train the next leaders in advanced academic endocrine surgery.
Program Overview
We accept one fellow each year. The Endocrine Surgery Fellowship allows fellows to gain a thorough understanding of the work-up, operative management, and postoperative care of patients with endocrine disorders that require surgery. During the program, fellows work under the supervision of faculty who are internationally recognized experts in endocrine surgery and manage services composed of residents, advanced practice providers, and medical students.
Fellowship Rotation Schedule
The fellowship rotation schedule reflects multiple facets of endocrine surgery, including treatment of diseases of the following organ systems:
- thyroid
- parathyroid
- adrenal
- endocrine pancreas
Our approximate annual case volume is as follows:
- thyroid: >700
- parathyroid: >300
- adrenal: >60
- pancreas: >50
- neck dissection: >30
Program Structure
Our program is structured to give fellows increasing autonomy as they progress through the year, functioning as a junior attending whose responsibilities include managing the endocrine surgery clinic and multidisciplinary thyroid neoplasia clinic, staffing operative cases, providing resident and student education, and participating in clinical research.
Clinical Skills
Clinical skills highlighted by the program include instruction and proficiency of:
- ultrasound
- fine-needle thyroid biopsy
- intraoperative laryngeal nerve monitoring
- flexible laryngoscopy and laryngeal ultrasound
- transoral thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy
- minimally invasive adrenalectomy
- radiofrequency ablation
Research Program
Our fellows also play a leading role in our Endocrine Surgery Research Program, specializing in multidisciplinary clinical and health services research.
Rotation Sites
Fellows in our program rotate to the following sites in our system:
- NYU Langone's Tisch Hospital
- Kimmel Pavilion
- NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue

Academic Responsibilities

Conferences
Fellows are required to complete a minimum of one project under the guidance of our faculty that will be published; presented at an appropriate local, regional, or national conference; or both.
Benefits
Fellows receive four weeks of vacation time, a book fund, and, pending approval, a travel stipend for conference attendance.
Admission Criteria
To apply for our program, fellows must be on track to complete an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)–accredited general surgery training program and be eligible to sit for the American Board of Surgery examinations.
