Program Overview


Introduction to the James J. Peters/Bronx VA Medical Center Dietetic Internship

The James J. Peters VA Medical Center (JJPVAMC) Dietetic Internship (DI) was established in 1946 and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Our program offers a 16-month Master of Science/Dietetic Internship (MS/DI) with New York University. The supervised practice experience is 11-months (47-weeks) with a focus on Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).


Program Details

  • The program is designed to strengthen the clinical nutrition knowledge and skills of dietetic interns.
  • All interns are required to be enrolled in a minimum of 19 credits throughout their internship year but are strongly recommended to complete 21 credits throughout their internship year.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to graduate from the program.

Admission Criteria

  • Applicants must submit their completed application for JJPVA DI Program via the Dietetic Inclusive Centralized Application Service, DICAS by January 15th, 2026, at 11:59 pm EST.
  • A separate application to the MS program is required. The deadline for admission to the NYU MS program is January 15th.
  • The $50 application fee is waived for applicants to the JJPVAMC DI.
  • Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Verification Statement.
