The Advanced Certificate program at NYU Meyers is designed for nurses who wish to refine their practice to a specific patient population. The program offers various specializations, including Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner Primary Care, Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner Acute Care, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nurse-Midwifery, Nursing Administration, Nursing Education, Nursing Informatics, and Palliative Care. Graduates of the program are educated and prepared to work in various advanced practice roles according to their specified population and degree/advanced certificate."
Program Outcomes
The overall outcomes for the Advanced Certificate programs are:
- Demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making based on a synthesis of appropriate theories and evidence from nursing and other sciences as related to the roles of nurse practitioners, nurse-midwives, and/or roles as educators, administrators, or informaticists.
- Perform role competencies defined by national professional organizations for nurse practitioners, or nurse-midwifery roles and/or roles as educator, administrator, or informaticist.
- Demonstrate evidence-informed decision-making related to a specific advanced practice role.
- Advocate for universal access to quality and cost-effective healthcare for all populations across the lifespan.
- Collaborate as members of interprofessional teams to achieve high-quality and cost-effective health outcomes.
- Demonstrate advanced professional practice role competencies related to educational, leadership, policy, organizational, and management outcomes.
- Demonstrate ethical decision-making in the context of personal and professional codes and guidelines.
- Articulate a personal and professional philosophy about the Advanced Practice Nursing role that reflects patient-centered care, respect for diversity, cultural values, and a commitment to the preservation of human rights based on professional standards of practice, scope of practice, and respective professional codes of ethics.
- Evaluate patient outcomes in relation to improving quality and patient safety.
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for the Advanced Certificate program, applicants must:
- Hold a Master's degree in nursing
- Have a GPA of 3.0
- Possess a NYS nursing license prior to beginning coursework
- Have the ability to successfully complete the academic and clinical requirements of the advanced certificate programs
- Have at least one year of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse
- Meet the technical standards requirements for core professional nursing competency performance
- Submit official transcripts from each post-secondary school attended
- Submit a resume, personal statement, and letters of recommendation
- Pay an application fee of $85

Additional Program-Specific Requirements
Each specialization has additional requirements, such as:
Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP
- At least one year of clinical nursing experience is required at the time of application
Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP
- At least one year of clinical nursing experience with adults and older adults is required at the time of application
- Critical care experience is preferred
Pediatrics Primary Care NP
- Prior to entering the specialty courses of the pediatrics program, at least one year of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse in pediatrics is required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required prior to entering the first clinical pediatric clinical course
Psychiatric-Mental Health NP
- At least one year of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse is required at the time of application
- Psychiatric mental health nursing experience is preferred

Technical Standards Requirements
Applicants must meet the Technical Standards for Core Professional Nursing Competency Performance in order to be eligible for admission to, progress in, and graduate from the nursing program.
Criminal Background Check Policy
All nursing students will be required to complete a series of clinical learning experiences in order to successfully meet the learning outcomes for a given program of study. Prior to participating in clinical learning experiences at any off-campus healthcare facility, students are required to complete a criminal background check and a drug test.

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- One transcript from each post-secondary school attended
- Resume
- A two- to three-page personal statement
- At least two letters of recommendation
- RN license and registration certificate
Application Fee
The application fee is $85. The fee is non-refundable and must be received by the stated application deadlines. Fee waivers are available for applicants who demonstrate financial hardship or are US military service members/US veterans.
