MA, Costume Studies/MSLIS, Library and Information Science

Overview

The MA, Costume Studies/MSLIS, Library and Information Science is a dual degree program that combines the study of costume and fashion history with library and information science. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the field of costume studies and the skills necessary to work in libraries, archives, and other information institutions.


Curriculum

The program requires a total of 61 credits, including:


  • 28 credits in Costume Studies courses
    • ARCS-GE 2012: Literature and Methodology of Costume Studies (3 credits)
    • ARCS-GE 2062: 19th Century Fashion: Sources and Methods (3 credits)
    • ARCS-GE 2063: 20th Century Fashion (3 credits)
    • ARCS-GE 2061: Case Studies in Fashion History: Prehistory to 1800 (3 credits)
  • 16 credits in Library and Information Sciences courses
    • LIS 510: Introduction to Library & Information Science (3 credits)
    • LIS 785: Mentoring (4 credits)
    • LIS 514: Introduction to Research in Library and Information Science (3 credits)

Requirements

Students must complete a total of 61 credits, including the required courses, electives, and thesis/culminating project. Students must also transfer in 8 NYU credits to Palmer and 9 Palmer credits to NYU to complete the degree.
