Program Overview
Introduction to the Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program
The Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) for three incoming residents, allowing for a total of nine residents to receive training in both Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and Reconstruction of the Rearfoot and Ankle (PMSR/RRA).
Program Overview
The three-year residency program, based at NYU Langone HospitalBrooklyn, equips residents with the knowledge and confidence to approach all varieties of podiatric pathologies. Residents receive exceptional surgical training alongside board-certified podiatric surgeons and foot and ankle orthopedists. Through this program, residents are trained to manage complex interdisciplinary foot and ankle pathologies and podiatric trauma, and become well-versed in both inpatient and outpatient medical care.
Curriculum and Training
The residency program prepares physicians for both hospital- and office-based practice through:
- Weekly didactics
- Off-service rotations
- Resident- and faculty-run academic conferences
- Surgical skills labs
Residents gain exposure to and treat a diverse range of pathologies, including:
- Diabetic foot infections
- Limb salvage
- Foot and ankle trauma
- Vascular insufficiencies
- Acute and chronic wound care
- Skin and nail pathology
- Clinical biomechanics and orthotics
- Elective and/or reconstructive foot and ankle surgery
Clinical Experience
Residents rotate through NYU Langone HospitalBrooklyn, NYU Langone's Tisch Hospital, and Kimmel Pavilion for inpatient management and care. They also cover cases at several outpatient surgical centers and gain experience at outpatient private office rotations.
Program Requirements
Residents are required to live within a 15-minute driving distance from NYU Langone HospitalBrooklyn due to its designation as a Level 1 Trauma Center.

The program only accepts applications through the Central Application Service for Podiatric Residencies/Centralized Residency Interview Program (CASPR/CRIP).
