Emergency Medicine Residency Program
The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a four-year program that accepts 18 residents per year. The program is sponsored by NYU Grossman School of Medicine and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Program Overview
The program is designed to provide residents with a comprehensive education in emergency medicine, including clinical training, didactic instruction, and research opportunities. Application Requirements
A complete application package includes:
- Standard ResidencyCAS application
- Personal statement
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- Official medical school transcript
- Official U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores (Step 1 required, Step 2 preferred)
- At least one standardized letter of evaluation, or “eSLOE,” written by a program director, clerkship director, or other leader in emergency medicine medical education
- Optional: applicants may submit one or more additional eSLOEs, and/or one or more letters of recommendation from faculty in an EM subspecialty or other specialties
Residency Program Details
- The program is a four-year program that accepts 18 residents per year.

- The program does not offer H-1B sponsorship for house staff, residents, or fellows. J-1 sponsorship is available through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
Interview Process
The program offers both virtual and in-person interview options throughout the season, starting in late October and extending into early January. Applicants may choose whichever format best suits their preferences, budgets, calendars, and geography. The choice of interview format will not affect an applicant’s chances of matching with the program.
Additional Information
The program is participating in the Preference Signaling program through ResidencyCAS. Applicants are encouraged to assign signal tokens at their discretion; signal tokens are not required in order to be offered an invitation to interview with the program. The program also offers social events for invited applicants to meet and interact with current residents. All social events are open to all applicants who have been invited to interview; invited applicants are encouraged to attend whichever event(s) they choose, and none are required.
