Program Description

The MPH program is designed for students who are drawn to the field of public health and want to make a difference in the world. The program offers a comprehensive education in public health, with a focus on health equity, ethics, and social justice. Students can choose from eight areas of concentration, including Biostatistics, Community Health Science and Practice, Environmental Public Health, Epidemiology, Global Health, Public Health Nutrition, Public Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Concentrations

The MPH program offers eight areas of concentration, each with its own unique focus and requirements. The concentrations are:

  • Biostatistics: Teaches students to apply statistical reasoning and methods to the analysis of public health, health care, and biomedical, clinical and population-based data.
  • Community Health Science and Practice: Prepares students to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies that promote healthy communities and health equity.
  • Environmental Public Health: Focuses on developing skills in analyzing and managing complex issues through both research and applied practice.
  • Epidemiology: Trains students to become public health professionals who possess the skills to critically analyze and understand how individual, social, and structural factors shape population-level health and well-being.
  • Global Health: Provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to take on leadership roles in public health settings around the globe.
  • Public Health Nutrition: Trains students to promote health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases and obesity through educational and environmental approaches to improved nutrition and physical activity.
  • Public Health Policy and Management: Offers two specializations: Public Health Policy and Public Health Management. The department aims to develop leaders who will influence policy and manage organizations to improve and protect the public’s health.
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences: Prepares students to critically assess and explain major theories, trends, and debates regarding the relationship between socially structured inequalities and health.
