Self-Designed Honors Major

The Self-Designed Honors Major (SDHM) is a unique program that allows students to create their own major. The program is designed for highly motivated students who want to pursue a plan of study that brings together courses from more than one NYU department or program.


Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the SDHM program, students must:


  • Have a 3.75 GPA at the time of application
  • Be an NYU Shanghai sophomore student
  • Have two NYU Shanghai or other Portal Campus faculty advisors
  • Conduct courses and research on campuses and Global Centers within The Global Network University

Application Process

The application process for the SDHM program includes:


  • Submitting a proposal that outlines the student's plan of study
  • Providing a biography that tells the story of the student's academic journey
  • Submitting an official or unofficial transcript
  • Providing a resume
  • Obtaining letters of support from faculty advisors
