Program Overview

The dual degree program in Art Education prepares students for teaching grades K through 12. Students earn two bachelor's degrees: a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Teacher Education

The Teacher Education Program provides diverse experiences with supportive mentors to effectively prepare students for their future classroom.

Admission Requirements

• Admission to the University of Iowa
• Completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours of earned college credit before submitting the application
• Documented completion of 10-hour Pre-admission School Field Experience
• Transcripts from all colleges attended with evidence of courses taken and grades earned
• Two recommendations
• An essay of no more than 500 words, on the topic: Please describe on a personal and professional level why you want to be a teacher, and specifically in the particular program area to which you are applying
• A resume of paid and/or volunteer work experience, including jobs, employers, and dates of employment
• For undergraduate and post-baccalaureate admission, cumulative grade-point average is considered and reviewed on an individual basis
• Completion of 12 semester hours of art and art history courses with a minimum GPA of 3.00

• After creating the account, click on "Applications" in the left side menu, select the appropriate application, and click "Next."
• Complete the application, save it if necessary, and click the "SUBMIT" button when complete.
