Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction Fellowship

About the Program

Our Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction Fellowship is designed to offer a comprehensive experience in hip and knee replacement – including a range of primary arthroplasty including direct anterior hip and partial knee replacement, computer-navigated and robotic-assisted hip and knee surgery, complex primary arthroplasty with post-traumatic deformity, skeletal dysplasia, hip/spine patients, revision hip and knee replacement, periprosthetic joint infection treatment, and periprosthetic hip and knee fracture management. We view the fellow as a junior partner on the busy reconstructive service that also includes three residents and multiple advanced practice providers. The fellow will have broad exposure to different implant designs and different companies during training, such as DePuy, Stryker, Zimmer-Biomet, Microport, Smith & Nephew, and LINK.

We offer mentorship-based clinical and OR training with adult reconstruction faculty members directing the fellowship, and additional opportunities to work with other surgeons in our department performing PAOs, hip arthroscopy, acute THA for acetabular fractures, and navigated oncological resections with large custom implant pelvic reconstructions. The fellow’s individual experience can be tailored to their interests.

Fellows will be funded for trips to the AAHKS annual meeting and the AAOS annual meeting. Additional funding for a fellows' educational conference will be provided, which will vary year-to-year.

How to Apply

Our Adult Hip and Knee Fellowship participates in the online application and match process through the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). This is facilitated by the SF Match service. Applications will be reviewed each fall and invitations for interviews sent in the winter each year.

Program Structure

The fellow will work closely with adult reconstruction faculty members and have opportunities to work with other surgeons in the department. The program includes mentorship-based clinical and OR training, with a focus on individualized experience and tailored to the fellow's interests.
