Community Planning and Real Estate Development (CPDV)

The Community Planning and Real Estate Development (CPDV) program is a dual degree program that offers students the opportunity to earn a Master of Community Planning and a Master of Real Estate Development. The program is housed in the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at the University of Maryland.

Overview

The CPDV program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in community planning and real estate development. The program combines the theoretical foundations of community planning with the practical skills of real estate development, preparing students for careers in urban planning, real estate development, and related fields.

Admissions

Admission to the CPDV program requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Applicants must submit a statement of purpose, transcript(s), and TOEFL/IELTS/PTE scores (for international graduate students). Additional requirements include letters of recommendation, a CV/resume, a writing sample, and a portfolio PDF upload (optional).

Requirements

The CPDV program requires students to complete a minimum of 60 credits, including core courses in community planning and real estate development, as well as electives and a capstone project. Students must also be admitted to both the community planning and real estate development programs to pursue the dual degree.

The application deadlines for the CPDV program are as follows:

• Domestic applicants: July 17, 2026 (fall), December 12, 2025 (spring)
• International applicants: March 13, 2026 (fall), September 12, 2025 (spring)
