Insider Risk Management and Mitigation (online) (Z172)

Overview

The graduate certificate in insider risk management and mitigation is a collaboration between The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism’s (START’s) and the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) to provide workforce development and professionalization for those either already in roles where countering and responding to insider risk (and insider threat) is already a part of their responsibilities or for those who are interested in careers that involve countering and responding to insider risk and insider threat issues.


Abstract

The President of the United States signed Executive Order (EO) 13587 in 2011, creating a mandate that every Executive Level Department and Agency of the U.S. government to have a Counter-Insider Threat Program capable of deterring, detecting, and mitigating against actions by employees who present a threat to national security. On May 18, 2016, the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence issued Change 2 to the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), which outlined the insider threat program requirements for cleared contractors consistent with those required for executive branch agencies.


Program Description

The program is a four-course sequence of courses that can be completed within one academic year of full-time study or two years of part-time study.
