Program Overview

The University of Maryland's Project GO Persian Program offers an intensive language study experience for students interested in Persian or the Persian-speaking world. The program is hosted through the UMD Summer Language Institute and provides students with the opportunity to study Persian for 9 weeks, several hours each day, while participating in cultural activities and workshops to develop linguistic and cultural fluency.

Why Study Persian?

  • Acquire highly sought-after language skills which can lead to a language-enabled position in a military or civilian career, or complement another position where global communication skills are needed
  • Persian is spoken by 110 million people across Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan, important countries in Asia that are of particular strategic import for the U.S.
  • Learn about the rich Persian literary tradition which includes greats such as Rumi, Ferdowsi, and Hafez
  • Discover the fascinating culture of Persian-speaking countries, including cinema, literature, cuisine, and artwork
