Research Areas

• Development, Labor, and Public Economics
  • This area of research focuses on the economic development of countries, labor markets, and public policy.
• Macroeconomics and International Economics
  • This area of research explores the performance, structure, behavior, and decision-making of an economy as a whole, as well as international trade and finance.
• Microeconomic Theory, Behavioral Economics, Industrial Organization
  • This area of research examines the behavior and interactions of individual economic units, such as households and firms, and the structure and behavior of industries.
• Econometrics
  • This area of research applies statistical methods to economic data to test hypotheses and estimate relationships between economic variables.
• Economic History, Institutions, and Political Economy
  • This area of research studies the history of economic systems, institutions, and the interaction between economics and politics.

Course Offerings

ECON433: Economics of Big Data

The importance of big data in the global economy is rising. Students will explore the definition and characteristics of big data, the impact of big data on individuals, use of big data by firms, entrepreneurs, and non-profits, as well as how big data reshapes various public policies.

Prerequisites/Rules:

• Prerequisites: Minimum grade of C- in ECON326 and 1 course with a minimum grade of C- from (ECON321, STAT401).
• Restrictions: Must be in one of the following programs (Economics Bachelor of Arts; Economics Bachelor of Science; Economics minor; Social Data Science-Economics).
