Business Administration and Computer Science Double Degree program (BBA/BCS)
Program Overview
Introduction to the Business Administration and Computer Science Double Degree Program
The Business Administration and Computer Science Double Degree program (BBA/BCS) is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to obtain two degrees in two fascinating and practical fields of study with courses from two outstanding universities. This co-op only program offers students the opportunity to participate in today's workforce, to experience the application of their studies in computer science and in business administration.
Program Overview
The BBA/BCS program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in both business administration and computer science. The program is offered jointly by the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, and students will have the opportunity to take courses from both institutions.
Program Requirements
To graduate from the BBA/BCS program, students must complete 52.5 courses within a minimum of 9 full-time terms, while meeting the academic progression requirements from both universities. The program requirements include:
- 11.5 CS courses
- 5 MATH courses
- 2 STAT courses
- 1 CO course
- one List 1 Communication course
- 15 BUS courses
- 2* ECON courses
- 4 additional CS electives chosen from CS 340-CS 398 or CS 440-CS 489, with at least 2 from CS 440-CS 489
- 7* additional BUS/ENTR electives at the 300- or 400- level
- 4 electives taken at either university, which can include additional CS / BUS / ENTR courses
Enhance Your Degrees
Students in the BBA/BCS program also have the option to enhance one or both of their degrees by adding a specialization, concentration, or minors. For the BCS degree, students may add a specialization, change their major to BCS Data Science, or add another minor at UW. The BBA degree allows the addition of concentrations and minors at WLU.
Checklists
To help students keep track of their progress, the university provides handy checklists that outline the requirements for the BBA/BCS program. Students can use these checklists to determine which courses they still need to complete before they can graduate.
Academic Progression Requirements
As a BBA/BCS student, you must meet academic progression requirements for both the BBA and BCS program. Failure to meet the progression requirements may result in removal from the BBA/BCS program. The academic progression requirements include:
- First year: Must be in Good or Excellent Standing, complete the Communication Skills List 1 course, and complete 10 distinct courses
- Second year: Must be in Good or Excellent Standing, complete 20 distinct courses, and meet the CS Major Average (MAV) requirement
- Third year: Must complete 30 distinct courses, including the third year BU core courses
- Fourth year onwards: Must complete 40 distinct courses, including all remaining BU courses, and meet the graduation requirements
Co-op Requirements
For Waterloo-based students and Laurier-based co-op students, the co-op requirements and regulations will differ depending on the home institution. Waterloo-based co-op students must complete four or five credited work terms, while Laurier-based co-op students must complete three or four credited work terms.
Co-op Sequences
All double degree co-op students are enrolled into SEQ 5DD. The co-op sequences per home institution are as follows:
