Program Overview


Theatre and Performance Degree

The Theatre and Performance degree at the University of Waterloo is a comprehensive program that allows students to explore the world of theatre and performance. This program is designed to provide students with a rich and diverse education, covering various aspects of theatre and performance, from performance and production to design, direction, and management.


Overview

The program is offered through the Faculty of Arts and is available as a co-op program, providing students with the opportunity to gain relevant paid work experience. The degree is designed to help students develop a range of creative, analytical, and management skills that will serve them well in any number of roles, on stage or off.

Students can customize their degree by including one or more minors available to all Waterloo students.

Co-op Work-Study Sequence

The co-op work-study sequence typically starts in the second year, with students alternating between school and work every four months.


Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, students must apply to Honours Arts or Honours Arts and Business and choose Theatre and Performance as their major at the end of the first year. Ontario students must have six Grade 12 U and/or M courses, including any Grade 12 U English with a minimum final grade of at least 70%. The admission average is typically in the low 80s.


Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Theatre and Performance program often pursue careers in entertainment, teaching, stage management, and directing. They may work in theatres, at festivals, and in schools. Recent graduates have found employment as:
