Program Overview


Master of Public Health Program

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program is a course-based curriculum that requires students to complete the following components to graduate:


  • MPH week-long Introductory Institute (August)
  • Ten core courses
  • Two electives
  • One 12-16 week practicum course (consisting of 420 hours)
  • Capstone course (final Spring term with asynchronous and synchronous course work before and after the one week of on-campus attendance)

Program Structure

The MPH program is designed to be completed within two years for full-time students (three terms per year). Part-time students must complete their degree within four years of initial program entry. All graduate students must maintain continuous registration for each term of the program.

Part-time Course Sequence

  • Year one
    • Pre-Fall (August): HLTH 600 - MPH Introductory Institute
    • Term one (fall): HLTH 602A - Foundations of public health
    • Term two (winter): HLTH 608 - Health and risk communication in public health
    • Term three (spring): Elective one
  • Year two
    • Term four (fall): HLTH 605B - Quantitative methods and analysis
    • Term five (winter): HLTH 606B - Principles of epidemiology for public health
    • Term six (spring): HLTH 617 - Population intervention for disease prevention and health promotion
  • Year three
    • Term seven (fall): HLTH 618 - Research tools in public health
    • Term eight (winter): HLTH 604 - Public health and the environment
    • Term nine (spring): Elective two
  • Year four
    • Term ten (fall): HLTH 603 - Health policy
    • Term eleven (winter): HLTH 640 - Professional experience practicum, HLTH 609 - Management and administration of public health services
