Introduction to Computing and Financial Management
Computing and Financial Management (CFM) at Waterloo is a unique program that combines studies in computer science and finance to prepare students for the fast-growing Financial Technology (FinTech) industry.
Program Overview
The CFM program is a community-based program that provides students with the support of a dedicated advisor and a small community of students. The program is available as a co-op program and consists of 40 courses, including 36 required courses and 4 general electives. Students graduate with a Bachelor of Computing and Financial Management degree.
How the CFM Program Works
The CFM program is structured to prepare students for financial technology by taking an equal amount of computer science courses and finance courses. The program is designed to fit two majors within one degree.
What is Finance?
Finance is a general term that describes bank-related activities like debts, credit, capital markets, money, and investments. Simply put, finance represents money management.

Sample Co-op and Careers
Students in the CFM program will have the skills and know-how to work in technology, finance, and/or financial technology roles. Our students commonly work as analysts, auditors, developers, engineers, and programmers while on co-op and full-time.
