Introduction to the Music Science Program

The Music Science program at Aarhus University is a comprehensive study that delves into various aspects of music and music culture, primarily in the Western world. As a student, you will work with both historical, theoretical, and practical approaches to music and music culture. Career Opportunities

With a bachelor's degree in Music Science, your job opportunities depend on your central subject and the master's program you choose, if any. The Music Science program provides you with a broad practical and theoretical understanding of music and its great diversity. You will be able to lead and communicate at a high level - both as a teacher, conductor, musician, and writer. Cooperation and ensemble playing are essential parts of music, and you will learn how to facilitate cooperation in the broadest sense, for example, what your role is in an ensemble situation.

Student Life

As a student at the Music Science program, you will experience a varied academic life. You will have lectures in groups of varying sizes and with different working methods - including the involvement of group and project work. Additionally, some of the teaching takes place in smaller groups - including in connection with arrangement and instrument teaching. On the bachelor's program in Music Science, you will also participate in teaching sequences with students from both the first and second year of the bachelor's program in Music Science.

The social student life at Music Science takes place at Kasernen together with students from other aesthetic subjects such as dramaturgy, literary history, and rhetoric. Here, there are facilities for study work both individually and in groups, as well as ample opportunity to unfold in the practice rooms during the day, evenings, and weekends. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to participate in numerous social associations:

  • Koncertcaféen: Here you have the opportunity to perform the works you may be taking an exam in. The audience will typically be your fellow students.
  • Fagligt forum: In the Fagudvalget, you get co-decision on the study environment, and you are involved in speaking for the students' cause towards the university's political bodies.
  • Kasernebaren: In collaboration with the other aesthetic subjects, Kasernebaren hosts a Friday bar every Friday. Here, there is an opportunity to get a few cold beers and water added to aesthetic sparks to the sound of live music, which you may be standing for.
  • Visir: Visir is Kasernen's student magazine, which addresses you who have a desire to write. Visir writes about the students' interests and accepts everything from poems and short stories to academic articles and essays.
  • SIM – Student initiatives at Music Science. Here, there is an opportunity to make lecture evenings, singing evenings, and anything else you can think of.
  • FIMS: The party association at Music Science, which organizes two parties each semester.
  • Kasernefestival: Kasernefestival is a student association that every year organizes an event for the students at Kasernen across the aesthetic subjects. Here, Kasernen's other voluntary associations are involved in a festive arrangement, where you can both meet the associations and be together with all your fellow students at Kasernen.
  • Kasernerådet: Kasernerådet is the joint faculty council for the aesthetic subjects at Kasernen. A faculty council is a group of students who engage in improving the education and study environment.
