What is a cookie?

A cookie is a text file that is stored on your computer, mobile, or tablet. In connection with a visit to our website, it is sent back and forth between your browser and a web server. It can be used by AU or by third parties, which is described in more detail under the individual cookie descriptions at the bottom of the page. Cookies cannot contain malicious code, such as viruses.

The individual cookie can either be temporary or permanent. The temporary cookies are related to a single visit and are deleted again when you close the website. The permanent ones remain on your computer, mobile, or tablet for a period. How long the different cookies remain is described in the cookie descriptions at the bottom of the page. Each time you visit the website, the cookie will be renewed, and the period starts from the beginning.

What data is collected via cookies?

For the most part, cookies collect anonymous data, such as how long you visit the website, which pages you see, whether your computer, tablet, or smartphone has visited us before, which website you came from, which browser and operating system you use, etc.
In some cases, IP addresses are also collected, which are personal data. Therefore, you can also read our Privacy Policy: which tells you how AU processes personal data.
If some of the third-party services we use process data on behalf of AU, we enter into a data processing agreement with them, if possible. The supplier is not allowed to use the data for their own purposes or to pass it on to others.
However, there are also suppliers with whom AU does not have the opportunity to enter into a data processing agreement, such as Facebook and Twitter. In these cases, AU is co-responsible for the collection and forwarding of the information collected via cookies. The supplier is, however, solely responsible for the further use of this information.
