The Bachelor's degree in Forest Engineering is a 5-year program that offers 40 annual vacancies. It is an integral program that focuses on the development of projects for the implantation, restoration, management, conservation, and exploitation of forests, as well as the processing, development, and industrialization of products derived from natural and planted forests.
The Profession
The Forest Engineer works with renewable natural resources from the forest, developing projects for the implantation, restoration, management, conservation, and exploitation of forests. The engineer's activities aim to reconcile production with the conservation of natural resources.
Academic Curriculum
The course offers basic disciplines in the areas of exact sciences and biology, such as calculus, physics, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, botany, and zoology. It also includes general professionalizing disciplines like climate-plant interaction, microbiology, soils, agricultural machines, sociology, and rural constructions. Specific professionalizing disciplines include the production of seeds and forest seedlings, planning of plantations, harvesting and transportation of forest products, industrialization of forest products, and the study of laws and public policies related to Brazilian forests.
Infrastructure
The Esalq/USP offers excellent physical and human infrastructure, with a focus on the quality of classrooms and laboratories. The course has access to more than 15 technical laboratories, two school farms for internships, a forest nursery, and a library with over 100,000 titles focused on the areas of study.
Market and Career Opportunities
The Forest Engineer can work in the private sector, non-governmental organizations, public agencies, institutions of higher education and research, and teaching. The engineer can also participate in programs for double diplomas with French institutions, allowing for international career opportunities.
