Introduction to the MIT Entrepreneurship & Maker Skills Integrator (MEMSI)

The MIT Entrepreneurship & Maker Skills Integrator (MEMSI) is a two-week long, fully immersive bootcamp designed for startup enthusiasts from universities in Hong Kong and from MIT. This unique program brings together students from MIT and Hong Kong to form teams and build a tech-enabled venture pitch within a short span of two weeks.

Program Overview

MEMSI offers a unique opportunity for participants to work with industry partners, gaining insight into business processes that help solve pre-defined industry problems with exposure to Asia. Participants will build prototypes, create a business model, and pitch their proposal to supporters of entrepreneurship on Showcase Day.

Program Highlights

In two action-packed weeks, participants will:

  • Meet and work with like-minded innovators from several continents
    • See how mass production happens in real life via factory/company tours in Shenzhen, China
  • Choose a customer problem to solve, create a solution, build a prototype, develop a business case, and present their venture to thought leaders, alumni, and friends on Showcase Day
  • Develop a strong entrepreneurial spirit and build hard and soft skills that will help them succeed, whatever career paths they may choose after graduation

Program Details

MEMSI is powered by the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node, the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship, Project Manus, the MIT MISTI China program, and the MIT Innovation Initiative. The program will operate 100% in-person, with MIT students flying into Hong Kong to attend the bootcamp. It is only offered in January, with no summer session available.

Conclusion

The MIT Entrepreneurship & Maker Skills Integrator (MEMSI) is a comprehensive and immersive program designed to foster entrepreneurship and maker skills among participants. With its unique blend of industry partnerships, hands-on learning, and international collaboration, MEMSI offers a valuable experience for startup enthusiasts from around the world.
