Program Overview
Program Overview
The Science, Technology, and Society (STS) program offers a variety of academic options, including undergraduate classes, concentrations, minors, and majors.
Major
The STS major is available as a joint major, leading to one diploma, either an SB in Humanities and Science (Course 21S) or an SB in Humanities and Engineering (Course 21E).
Joint Major in STS
The joint major in STS requires the following subjects:
- One STS Tier I subject
- One STS Tier II subject
- STS.004 Intersections: Science, Technology, and the World
- Four other STS subjects forming a coherent group of study
- Pre-thesis tutorial (STS.ThT)
- Thesis (STS.ThU)
- Plus 6 science subjects or 6 engineering subjects beyond the GIRs to complete the science/engineering portion of the degree.
Program Requirements
For students who matriculated before Fall 2017, the STS.004 requirement can also be fulfilled by STS.091. This is an update effective AY, replacing the prior requirement of five other STS subjects.
