The University of Washington Certificate Program in Clinical Laboratory Leadership and Management is designed to enhance laboratory leadership and management skills. The program consists of three 10-week courses.
Program Description
The program aims to provide a foundation for developing management skills in key areas of clinical laboratory quality operations management. It builds on the World Health Organization’s 12 essential components for laboratory quality and compliance, applicable to laboratories worldwide, and includes specifics related to clinical laboratory testing requirements in North America.
Course 2: Operational Quality Management in the Clinical Laboratory
This course focuses on improving quality in laboratory operations. Participants will learn key quality and management principles to better manage laboratory organizations and personnel, contribute to a safe working environment, and establish programs for managing equipment and purchasing inventory.
Learning Objectives
Participants completing the course should be able to:
- Define lab quality management and quality management systems (QMS) terms;
- Develop a personal vision, mission, and long-term goals to guide leadership development and growth;
- Identify personnel management principles that contribute to a qualified, competent workforce;
- Explain the importance of establishing a program for managing equipment;
- Improve laboratory quality and practice country-specific laws and regulations;
- Deploy fiscal compliance and management skills;
- Develop a process to prepare laboratory staff for audits and assessments;
- Identify and consult appropriate sources for data-driven decisions;
- Apply critical analyses to laboratory data and communicate results and interpretations;
