DENTPC 585: Removable Partial Denture Technique
Course Overview
This course prepares students for the procedures necessary for the provision of removable partial dentures (RPDs) in the clinical setting.
Learning Objectives
Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
- Prepare guiding planes and rest seats for a partially dentate arch simulating natural teeth.
- Design an example cast to guide a dental technician.
- Establish an acceptable plane of occlusion for crowns on a cast with multiple crown preparations.
- Modify waxed crowns to receive a removable partial denture.
- Make a secondary impression to alter the original master cast for a distal extension partial denture.
- Fabricate an occlusion rim for a partial denture framework and master cast.
- Trim occlusion rims to represent the vertical dimension of occlusion and record centric relation.
- Select the appropriate tooth form and material to create the desired occlusal scheme for patients with partially and completely edentulous jaws.
- Set artificial cusped teeth in balanced occlusion on mounted casts of a CD/RPD on a semi-adjustable articulator.
- Make a remount cast for a waxed-up partial denture.
- Create a temporary removable partial denture-ready for processing-by following the steps of trimming the cast, setting the teeth, and waxing the denture.
- Repair a partial denture or complete acrylic resin dentures with broken parts using an autopolymerizing acrylic resin.
- Describe the procedures, sequence, and necessary materials for the delivery and maintenance of an RPD in a clinical setting.
- Demonstrate the procedures, sequence, and necessary materials for the design, delivery, and maintenance of an RPD in a laboratory setting.
