Program Overview
Global Business Law Concentration Track
The Global Business Law Concentration Track is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal principles and practices that govern international business transactions. This concentration track is part of the J.D. program at the University of Washington School of Law.
Planning Steps
To pursue the Global Business Law Concentration Track, students must follow these planning steps:
- Attend a student advising session in the Spring Quarter of their 1L year.
- Have a planning consultation with a Faculty Advisor prior to 2L course selection.
- Obtain a Faculty Advisor signature on the Concentration Track form.
- Complete the requirements outlined below.

Program Requirements
Writing Requirement
Students must complete a faculty-supervised Law E500 Advanced Writing Project on a Global Business Law topic, approved by the supervising faculty member.

Global Business Law Learning Outcomes
In addition to the competencies expected of all students graduating with a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law, those students who graduate with a Concentration in Global Business Law should be able to:
- Determine and synthesize the law applicable to international business transactions and understand the main consequences of the application of differing laws.
- Apply foundational principles of comparative law related to business law.
- Draft legal documents in an international transaction setting.
- Understand dispute resolution mechanisms in a global context, including differing cultural and business norms.
- Understand the development of domestic and transnational business law in diverse jurisdictions, including the political, social, and economic forces that shape the law.
