Program Overview
University Program Information
Introduction to Ocean Technology Courses
The University of Washington offers a series of three concurrently offered 2-credit courses in Ocean Technology, targeted at students at different stages in the undergraduate program. These project-based courses focus on designing and building ocean sensors in small groups.
Course Details
- Ocean 261: Designed for lower division undergraduates, providing exposure to the design/build process.
- Ocean 361: Targeted at undergraduate sophomores or juniors, focusing on leading the design/build activities.
- Ocean 461: Intended for senior (or advanced) Ocean Technology students, where they learn project management skills by participating as project leaders with newer students during their first design/build course.
Course Focus
- Ocean Technology
- Coding
Program Structure
The courses are structured to allow students to progress from introductory to advanced levels, with opportunities for project leadership and management. Ocean 261 and 361 may be taken concurrently in the same quarter.
