Master of Information Program
The Master of Information program offers several concentrations, including:

Information Systems and Design Concentration
The Information Systems and Design (ISD) concentration examines how to analyze, design, and implement the diverse array of systems used to manage all kinds of information in businesses and complex organizations. It emphasizes critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and collaborative decision-making.
Concentration Features
- Acquisition of practical skills and experience with tools for modeling, project management, systems analysis, and systems implementation
- Exploration of the possibilities, constraints, and trade-offs inherent in the design, management, and implementation of digital information systems and media
- Exploration of how to create and enhance innovative, accessible, and adaptable solutions to problems of information practice in constantly changing digital environments
- Engagement in readings, discussions, hands-on projects, and critical debates
- Course material tied to real-life situations in business, management, health, and diverse computational environments
Concentration Requirements
For MI students enrolled in 2024 and later:
- Coursework-Only Option: 8.0 full-course equivalents (FCEs), including 2.5 required FCEs and 5.5 elective FCEs
- Thesis Option: 8.0 FCEs, including a thesis (2.0 FCEs), 2.5 required FCEs, a research methods course (0.5 FCE), a reading course (0.5 FCE), and 2.5 elective FCEs
- Co-op Option: 8.0 FCEs, including a co-op (1.0 FCE), 2.5 required FCEs, and 4.5 elective FCEs
For MI students enrolled in 2023 and earlier:
- Required courses: INF1005H, INF1006H, INF1339H, INF1341H, INF1342H, INF1343H, and INF2177H
- Suggested electives: INF2194Y, INF2040H, INF2164H, INF2169H, INF2170H, INF2173H, INF2183H, INF2242H, and INF2313H
Suggested Course Sequence
- Year 1: Complete mandatory ISD courses and 2.0 FCEs in elective courses
- Year 2: Complete 3.5 FCEs in elective courses
