Introduction to the MD/MBA Program

The MD/MBA combined degree program is offered by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the Rotman School of Management. This program is designed for medical students with leadership potential and an appetite for driving change in the healthcare and life sciences sector.

Program Overview

The MD/MBA program is a five-year combined degree program that allows students to complete the requirements for both the MD and MBA degrees in five years, rather than the six years it would take to acquire the degrees independently. The program is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the complex intersection of medicine and business management, while building their network among Canada's most powerful people and institutions.

Program Structure

The program structure is as follows:

  • Year 1: Year 1 MD program
  • Year 2: Year 2 MD program
  • Year 3: Year 3 MD program; Apply to MD/MBA program
  • Year 4: Year 1 MBA
  • Year 5: Year 4 MD program; Year 2 MBA

Admissions

To be eligible for the MD/MBA program, students must first be admitted to the Temerty Faculty of Medicine MD program. In the third year of the MD program, students can then apply to Rotman to join the MD/MBA combined degree program.

  • Strong academic performance
  • An appropriate bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the final year of a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
